Rustic Gentlemen’s Lodge: A Blend of Eclectic Style & Vintage Doors

In the heart of Santa Monica, California, a remarkable transformation has taken place. What was once a typical 1990s house has now become a haven of warmth, elegance interior, and rustic charm. The homeowners, two married men with a teenage son, envisioned a space that seamlessly blended eclectic style with rough-hewn materials, all while embracing a new open layout. The result? A stunning home that exudes character and sophistication.

Central to the redesign was the creation of what the architecture team aptly named the “triple parlor.” This innovative concept connects the living room, dining room, and family room, allowing for fluid movement throughout the home. Sliding barn doors, each uniquely carved Door, serve as both functional dividers and striking design elements, providing a sense of distinction between the interconnected spaces.

Step into the living room, and you’re greeted by a sense of coziness and refinement. A new gas fireplace, adorned with a surround of hand-hewn granite, anchors the space, radiating warmth and comfort. Flanking the fireplace are new bookshelves crafted from old Indian arches, adding a touch of history and character. Above the mantel hangs a hand-carved art panel of the Tree of Life, a captivating centerpiece from the homeowners’ extensive art collection. Throughout the house, artistic oil paintings and carved wood sculptures add further depth and personality to the interior.

Transitioning into the dining room, located at the heart of the “triple parlor,” one is immediately struck by the eclectic mix of styles. A traditional-style wood dining table, repurposed from an antique Indian door, takes center stage, surrounded by a vibrant ensemble of modern office chairs covered in bold blue wool and woven seagrass host chairs. A rustic modern credenza, fashioned from reclaimed doors in turquoise, serves as a striking buffet, infusing the space with bold colors and vintage textures.
